2012: poll
Korean rapper Psy, who rose to global stardom with “Gangnam Style” and his trademark horse-riding dance, has been chosen as the most popular Korean musician of 2012, according to a survey by Gallup Korea.

“Gangnam Style” became the most-viewed YouTube video last week, topping 1 billion hits.

The 34-year-old singer, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, received the most support with 24.4 percent of the 4,157 people aged 13 to 59 throughout the country polled between May and November of this year, the local pollster said.

The respondents were asked to select up to three of their favorite singers of the year.

“Psy received wide support from all age groups but enjoyed more popularity from people in their 30s or older rather than younger people,” the pollster said.

“Respondents in 40s showed 30.7 percent support, the highest rate among all age groups.”

Girls’ Generation came second with 19.8 percent, followed by boy band Big Bang with 9.5 percent.

“Gangnam Style” has been also chosen as the most popular “pop song of this year,” garnering 30.7 percent support.
