One of the biggest blockbusters of 2012 was Marvel’s The Avengers. The superhero movie set or tied a number of box office records and became the third highest-grossing film of all time with $1.51 billion.
It seems unlikely that any film can match The Avenger’s success. But wait, there is! Well, at least in China. Hallyu star Kwon Sang Woo’s Chinese Zodiac, which also stars martial arts extraordinaire Jackie Chan, grossed more than $100 million at the Chinese box office, just 18 days since its release, according to Joy n Contents Group, a film distribution company. This means that the movie has outperformed The Avengers, which ranked fifth at the Chinese box office last year.
Chinese Zodiac has been getting rave reviews from Chinese audiences, in large part due to the amazing stunts performed by Chan, an action legend. It also has been reported that the success of the movie is fueling the popularity of Kwon in the Chinese market. Fans have been heaping praise on the Korean actor on Sina Weibo, one of China’s major social networking sites.
Chinese Zodiac will be released in theaters in Korea next month.
f(x)’s leader Victoria updated her Weibo with a new photo on the 7th of January.
She mentioned,”2013 started,hwaiting,hwaiting,hwaiting”.
She covers one eye and reveals another one in the photo above.
Fans commented,”beautiful eye”,”prettier than flower”,”Victoria jjang” and etc.
Break Down MV Teaser:
Super Junior’s Chinese subunit Super Junior M will be releasing their new album “Break Down” on January 7th.
The group’s upcoming album will be their first new release in nearly 2 years. Their last studio album, “Perfection”, was released on March 4th, 2011, causing fans to grow anxious waiting for their return.
“Break Down” will be released in both China and Korea in digital form. It is unclear whether the album will be available through iTunes in other countries as well that day as well.
The music video to the album’s title track will be released the same day the album is released. The group released an MV teaser for “Break Down” earlier this week, raising people’s expectations for the sub-unit’s comeback.
On January 7, 2013, Super Junior-M will release their second album, Break Down, along with the music video for the lead single of the same name. A press conference will take place in Beijing on January 7, and they will promote the album in China.
Regaining his single status, Heavenly king Leon Lai was sighted spending his new year at a night club. Leon reportedly headed to a luxurious night club in Shanghai – ‘Club No. 9′ after performing at a countdown celebration.
Tabloids reported that Leon was welcomed by a group of sexily dressed women, who were believed to be the club’s hostesses. The 46-year-old allegedly left the club two hours later and an attractive long-haired woman even accompanied him out to the door and bade him goodbye.
When asked if he was drunk, the tipsy Leon smiled and said, “I drank a little”.
On the other hand, Gaile Lok has been enjoying her single status after separation from Leon. She has been posting her travel pictures online to reflect her freedom and happiness.
Hong Kong singer Gillian Chung was recently spotted meeting her ‘kimchi boyfriend’ Kwon in Beijing. Despite keeping a distance at the airport and checking into the same hotel separately, Kwon sent a private car to fetch Gillian to a restaurant for a dinner date the next day.
They were said to be behaving intimately during the dinner, whispering and gazing into each other’s eyes from time to time.
When asked if Kwon was in Beijing to accompany Gillian on her work trip, her manager replied, “She was there to film a music video with Anson Hu (Chinese singer). I will not comment on personal matters.”
Although Gillian has openly talked about her relationship status before, she has been protective of her new boyfriend and has refused to reveal his identity. Kush, a member of Korean duo Stony Skunk, was earlier speculated to be her beau, and she had to step out and clarify that he is her boyfriend’s buddy, after the rumour caused fans from both sides to break out in verbal dispute.
Nevertheless, sources revealed that her real beau Kwon is a famous South Korean movie producer who is close friends with a number of popular celebrities in the industry, such as Big Bang’s G-Dragon.
Kwon reportedly graduated from the reknowned Seoul National University and is in his thirties. He flies to Hollywood often to discuss international film productions and each project is said to earn him millions of Hong Kong dollars.
On the other hand, the Twins member is rumoured to have applied for leave during the festive season as she planned to spend Christmas with her boyfriend and to visit his parents in South Korea.
Raymond Lam clarified during an event last weekend, “I’m not leaving [the showbiz industry] yet.”
“My family supports what I’m doing. However, if they need me, I will eventually return to help my father. There is no actual date, but it’s definitely not the right time now,” the Hong Kong actor-singer stressed.
Raymond recently invited wide speculations on his entertainment career after he had reportedly expressed in an interview on his plans to quit showbiz and help run the family business.
The 34-year-old claimed the news were “exaggerated” by the media.
When Raymond, who was regarded as the hot favourite for “Best Actor”, did not win any nominations at the annual prestigious TVB awards last month, rumour also has it that he became dejected and had pondered on an early termination with TVB.
Raymond refuted such talks, and expressed he has always remained neutral about awards winning right from the start in his showbiz career.
He added, “I just wish to strictly focus on work currently.”
Yesterday afternoon Wayne Lai, Nancy Wu and Kristal Tin attended a Christmas event and played games with the audience. Wayne expressed he has several jobs to earn extra income from Christmas to the Lunar New Year holidays. Since he continues as the TV King, he is getting paid the same amount, no wonder he joked he’s a bargain, “I haven’t had a pay raise in years. (Go to Mainland to shoot dramas and earn the real money like Kevin Cheng?) I don’t really care for that, I love my son so much, how could I bear to leave him behind for so long?” It was recently reported Wayne’s wife Julia is pregnant. Yesterday Julia accompanied her husband to the event and clarified the rumor: “Of course not, before when our son was still young, we were trying everyday, but not anymore. If I’m really pregnant, I will announce on Weibo.”
As for Kristal, reporters kept asking her questions regarding ATV firing 5 of their artists. She helplessly said: “Can’t help it. Artists just want more opportunities to perform, not going back to the company to punch in (time cards). I will pray for my former colleagues. It’s useless talking about it, just get frustrated the more we talk about it.”
Nancy expressed this year she spent Christmas with her boyfriend for the first time, but they celebrated together with a large group of friends. She laughed: “Christmas was celebrated like a normal day, the atmosphere is much more lively with more friends.” What Nancy really wants is to work with Wayne to earn more money together by attending more shows in pairs.
